He is considered the ancestor of the Greeks. His descendants colonized the west coast of Asia Minor and the southeastern tip of Europe and became known as the Greeks and the people living in Cyprus. The first Greeks were called Hellenes and their country was Hellas. Historically, the Greeks were in some ways Romans, as they were ruled by the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire and the Eastern Roman Empire. Until the year 1700, some Greeks were still calling themselves Romans. 

According to Josephus, Javan founded Ionia, from which all Greeks are descended. Nennius, a welsh monk of the 9th century to whom the Historia Brittonum is attributed, traces the ancestry of many European nations to Javan, including the Romans, the Britons, the Albans, the Saxons, the Bavarians (ancient Germanic people), the Thuringians (Deutch) and the Lombards (Germans). It is also a well-known fact that a number of Roman emperors and notorious generals in the Roman army were giants.

• Daniel 10:20 "Do you know why I have come to you?” he said. “I must return at once to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I have gone forth, behold, the prince of Greece will come."

The Javanites were the enemies of the Israelites, as far back as the third millennium B.C. They were slave traders and builders of bronze ships.

• Joel 3:6 "You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, to send them far from their homeland."

• Ezekiel 27:13 "Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your merchants. They exchanged slaves and bronze utensils for your merchandise."

He begat Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, et Dodanim

Elishah

His descendants are identified with the Greeks and the inhabitants of southern Italy or Cyprus. Ezekiel 27:7 speaks of Elishah as a coastal people who traded in purple dyes that were highly prized by the inhabitants of Tyre in Phoenicia. Elishah was probably the ancestor of the Aeolians, or Elysians, who are frequently mentioned in Greek history and mythology. Two Greek cities, Elis and Elissus, as well as the region Ellas were named after him. It's possibly the origin of Hellas, the Greek name for Greece, from the Hellenic description, and the Greek paradise Elysium, also known as the Elysian Fields or the Elysian Plains, which is a concept of the afterlife and has been kept by some sects as well as Greek religious and philosophical cults.

Tarshish

He was associated with the city of Tartessus, in southwestern Spain, near Gibraltar; other possible areas for Tarshish are Tarsus in southeastern Asia Minor, and Tharros in Sardinia in Asia Minor. His descendants became primarily a maritime people linked to Mediterranean trade and the shipping of gold, silver, ivory, iron, tin and lead (1 King 10:22; Psalm 48:7; Ezekiel 38:13). The Phoenicians built a type of ship known as the Tarshish ships that operated both on the Red Sea at Ezion Geber and on the Mediterranean (2 Chronicles 20:36-37; Ezekiel 27:35).

Kittim

Ancient Phoenician documents referred to Kittim as Kt, or Kty, a group of people who settled on the island of Cyprus, which gave its name to the ancient Cypriot city of Kition, known as Citium by the Romans, which is now known as the city of Larnaca.

If Kittim is the ancient name of the island of Cyprus, why then is Kittim representative of Rome? After the fall of Rome, all Roman kings reigned over the Byzantine Empire, in Constantinople, the new Roman capital, which included all of Italy and its surrounding Mediterranean coastal regions. The name Kittim is the plural form of the word and refers to a multitude of islands. When speaking of Kittim, ELOHIM was referring to Rome, which had control over all the islands of the Mediterranean Sea and their coasts, i.e. the Byzantine Empire.

• Numbers 24:24 "And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever."

In the Bible, Mount Seir is described as being closely related to the land of Edom or Idumea. This is because before the Edomites occupied the land, it was called Mount Seir and was inhabited by the Horites. It was there that Esau, Jacob's older twin brother, settled during his father's lifetime. There he destroyed the Horites and his descendants gradually took possession of the land. In this way Seir is Edom, the land of the Edomites, the descendants of Esau. After the death of Joseph, Zepho grandson of Esau, and chief of the armies of Angeas king of Dinhabah, tried to convince the king to go and fight the Sons of Israel in Egypt. But when Angeas turned him down, Zepho went to Kittim and formed an alliance with them to fight Angeas. He delivered Kittim from Angeas and also succeeded in subduing the sons of Tubal and surrounding islands. As a result, he won the trust of Kittim and was proclaimed king of Kittim and ruled over them for 50 years (Jasher 61:23-24). After the Exodus of the Hebrews, a war broke out between Hadad king of Edom and Abianus king of Kittim. Abianus killed Hadad and subdued Edom. Consequently, Edom and Kittim became one nation (Jasher 90:1-8).

It is also worth noting that ELOHIM declared to the Israelites that they would wage war against Amalek throughout all generations.

• Exodus 17:14-16 "Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as a reminder and recite it to Joshua, because I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”... “Indeed,” he said, “a hand was lifted up toward the throne of the LORD. The LORD will war against Amalek from generation to generation."

Amalek was one of the sons of Eliphaz and a grandson of Esau. He was born to Eliphaz through his concubine Timna and was one of the tribal leaders of Edom. When ELOHIM speaks of Amalek he refers to Kittim or Rome.

• Genesis 36:8 “So Esau dwelt in Mount Seir. Esau is Edom.”

• Isaiah 34:8-10 "For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. Edom’s streams will be turned to tar, and her soil to sulfur; her land will become a blazing pitch. It will not be quenched—day or night. Its smoke will ascend forever. From generation to generation it will lie desolate; no one will ever again pass through it."

• Jeremiah 49:10-18 "But I will strip Esau bare; I will uncover his hiding places, and he will be unable to conceal himself. His descendants will be destroyed along with his relatives and neighbors, and he will be no more... For by Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, that Bozrah will become a desolation, a disgrace, a ruin, and a curse, and all her cities will be in ruins forever... The terror you cause and the pride of your heart have deceived you, O dwellers in the clefts of the rocks, O occupiers of the mountain summit. Though you elevate your nest like the eagle, even from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD... Edom will become an object of horror. All who pass by will be appalled and will scoff at all her wounds. As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown along with their neighbors,” says the LORD, “no one will dwell there; no man will abide there."

• Ezekiel 35:10-11 "Because you have said, ‘These two nations and countries will be ours, and we will possess them,’ even though the LORD was there, Therefore, as surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I will pay back your angry deeds with my own. I will punish you for all your acts of anger, envy, and hatred. And I will make myself known to Israel by what I do to you.."

Dodanim

According to the Hebrew Strongs #01721, Dodaniym, by spelling error is also rendered as Rodaniym, His descendants became inhabitants of the Aegean islands, near the island of Rhodes. The name "Eastern Aegean Islands" covers the Greek islands in the easternmost part of the Aegean Sea. The group of islands in the Eastern Aegean is located, like the Dodecanese, much closer to Turkey than the Greek mainland.
