Death from God's perspective

Why is Death so precious to Him?

Death from God's perspective
  • Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints."

A thorough reading reveals that the Bible speaks of 3 types of death:

  • physical death,

  • spiritual death and

  • eternal death.

Physical Death

It is inevitable and without consequence. The spirit returns to the Lord and the soul separates from the body. Deprived of the spirit, man only has the outer covering, when it ceases to be animated, it's in no way distinct from the dust. Physical death has a remedy: resurrection.

  • 1 Corinthians 15:42-44 "So will it be with the resurrection of the dead: What is sown is perishable; it is raised imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body."

Spiritual death

It's the consequence of sin, its ultimate result is eternal death.

  • Ephesians 2:1-3 "And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience. All of us also lived among them at one time, fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath

  • Ephesians 2:4 "But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses."

According to Scriptures, when Adam and Eve transgressed the command of the Lord, they made manifest all carnal desires contrary to that of ELOHIM. They were stripped of their glorious garments and handed over to death, that is, their heavenly bodies were changed into mortal bodies made of flesh and they perceived their nakedness. They were cast out of the realm of the living (Garden of Eden) into the realm of the dead ( the world we live in).

  • Romans 5:12 "Because of this, just as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death passed to all men, because all sinned."

Therefore, although we come into existence in a physical realm with lively, animated bodies, in the eyes of YAHWEH we are all born spiritually dead. This is due to our sinful nature and fleshly bodies which we inherited from Adam and Eve, and which distance us from Him.

Spiritual death can be avoided. It only has one cure: salvation in YESHUA

  • Colossians 2:13-14 "When you were dead in your trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our trespasses, having canceled the debt ascribed to us in the decrees that stood against us. He took it away, nailing it to the cross!"

Eternal death or second death

This is the consequence of spiritual death. Once the soul of man is handed over to eternal death, it permanently separates itself from the Lord and there is no remedy for this.

  • 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 "In blazing fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might,

  • Revelations 21:8 "But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

If physical death is without consequence, we then understand that YAHWEH has a zeal for the physical death of those who have been spiritually made alive in YESHUA.

  • Matthew 24:22 "If those days had not been cut short, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be cut short."

  • Isaiah 57:1-2 "The righteous perishes, And no man takes it to heart; Merciful men are taken away, While no one considers That the righteous is taken away from evil. He shall enter into peace; They shall rest in their beds, Each one walking in his uprightness.

  • Philippians 1:21-23 "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. So what shall I choose? I do not know. I am torn between the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed."

This death, or rather this reunion, is precious to the Lord and He rejoices greatly in it, for the righteous person will forever be in His presence in the world of the living (eternal life). But the Lord does not rejoice in spiritual death, which leads to the eternal death of a man.

  • Ezekiel 33:11 "Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’"

The next time you feel some inner anger or fear about the reality of death, remember that our perception of death is contrary to that of ELOHIM.

  • Isaiah 55:8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD"
