Sign of the Moon

This hand gesture is made with the thumb and pinkie in the air, with the other three fingers folded. In the Kabbalah it is the sign of the witch or sign of the moon, satanists and occultists use it to greet the rising new moon.

​This is readily accepted in the United States as meaning things like "Yeah rock on!", "This Rocks!" or "Go Texas Longhorns!".In Spain, Portugal and many other countries, it means you're a cuckold.​ Then why would prominent figures in non-texan countries make a hand sign that has such a derogatory meaning?
