Vision of Hell

Faustina Kowalska

Faustina Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament OLM was born on August 25, 1905. She was a Polish Catholic nun revered throughout the world because she claimed to have the gifts of revelations, visions, hidden stigmata, and prophecy. All of these gifts earned her the title "Apostle of Divine Mercy". During the last four years of her life, Sister Faustina wrote the "Diary" and in this book she describes the depth of her spirituality and the communion of her soul with God. She died on October 5, 1938.

"I, Sister Faustina Kowalska, by the order of God, have visited the Abysses of Hell so that I might tell souls about it and testify to its existence...the devils were full of hatred for me, but they had to obey me at the command of God, What I have written is but a pale shadow of the things I saw. But I noticed one thing: That most of the souls there are those who disbelieved that there is a hell."

The Apostle of Divine Mercy St. Maria Faustina Kowalska of the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. Excerpt from my Reflection n° 100: Modern Heresies.

"Today, I was led by an angel to the Chasms of Hell. It is a place of great torture; how awesomely large and extensive it is! The kinds of tortures I saw:

The First Torture that constitutes hell is The loss of God.

  • 2 Thessalonians 1:8 "in blazing fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus."

The Second is  Perpetual remorse of conscience.

  • Ezekiel 16:61 "Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed."

  • Isaiah 47:3 "Your nakedness will be uncovered and your shame will be exposed. I will take vengeance; I will spare no one.”

The Third is That one's condition will never change.

  • Isaiah 38:18 "Those who descend to the Pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness."

  • Job 11:20 "But the eyes of the wicked will fail, and escape will elude them; they will hope for their last breath.”

  • Job 8:13 "Such is the destiny of all who forget God; so the hope of the godless will perish."

The Fourth is The fire that will penetrate the soul without destroying it. A terrible suffering since it is a purely spiritual fire, lit by God's anger.

  • Mark 9:48 "where ‘their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched."

  • Isaiah 66:24 "As they go forth, they will see the corpses of the men who have rebelled against Me; for their worm will never die, their fire will never be quenched, and they will be a horror to all mankind."

The Fifth Torture is Continual darkness and a terrible suffocating smell, and despite the darkness, the devils and the souls of the damned see each other and all the evil, both of others and their own.

  • Luke 12:3-4 "What you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops. I tell you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more."

  • Isaiah 3:24 "Instead of fragrance there will be a stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of styled hair, baldness; instead of fine clothing, sackcloth; instead of beauty, shame."

The Sixth Torture is The constant company of Satan.

The Seventh Torture is Horrible despair, hatred of God, vile words, curses and blasphemies.

These are the Tortures suffered by all the damned together, but that is not the end of the sufferings.

  • Zechariah 14:12 "And this will be the plague with which the LORD strikes all the peoples who have warred against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths."

Indescribable Sufferings There are special Tortures destined for particular souls. These are the torments of the senses.

  • Isaiah 24:22 "They will be gathered together like prisoners in a pit. They will be confined to a dungeon and punished after many days."

  • Job 12:17 "He leads counselors away barefoot and makes fools of judges.."

  • 1 Peter 3:18-20 "For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit, in whom He also went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.

I would have died There are caverns and pits of torture where one form of agony differs from another. I would have died at the very sight of these tortures if the omnipotence of God had not supported me.
Each soul undergoes terrible and indescribable sufferings related to the manner in which it has sinned.

  • Matthew 26:52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword."

I am writing this at the command of God, so that no soul may find an excuse by saying there is no hell, or that nobody has ever been there, and so no one can say what it is like

I, Sister Faustina, by order of God, have entered the abyss of hell, to tell souls about it and to testify that hell exists. I cannot speak about it now. I have God's order to leave it in writing. The demons felt great hatred towards me. But God's order forced them to be obedient to me. What I have written is a weak reflection of the things I saw. One thing I noticed was that there were many souls there who doubted that hell existed. When I came back to myself, I could not calm my terror that souls suffer so terribly there. So I pray even more fervently for the salvation of sinners. Unceasingly I call the divine mercy on them.

O my Jesus, I prefer to agonize until the end of the world in the greatest torments than to offend You by the least sin.

May the Holy Spirit guide you through the understanding of this message.
