Good people do not go to Heaven

Why don't "Good People" go to Heaven?

Good people do not go to Heaven

Most people think that as long as you are a "good" person you will inevitably go to heaven. But what is a good person?

For us humans, being good is defined according to our own perception.

Thus you will hear people say that someone who has succeeded in life according to society's standards is a good person, while the destitute who falls into drug addiction or illegal trafficking is a bad person. You will also hear others say that serial killers are good people but they have just not been capable of controlling their dark side. And others will say that a Christian who condemns idolatry is not good because he preaches intolerance. Then who is good?

  • Isaiah 64:6 "Each of us has become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind."

YAHWEH does not compare us to each other, but He compares us to Himself and we all fall short of the standard of righteousness He has set.

  • Matthew 5:48 "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."

The biblical truth is that very few will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven because based on our own perceptions of righteousness, hell is our default destination.

  • Matthew 7:14 "But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it."

Only His divine Law that never varies is representative of a "good" person. If you have even once committed any of the transgressions below you are not good in the eyes of God:

► loved something else more than God,

► taken his name in vain,

► disrespected your parents,

► killed your neighbor,

► cheated on your wife or husband,

► lied,

► made a false accusation against your neighbor,

► stolen someone else's coveted property,

► envied, or desired to take that which does not belong to you

If we only consider this without mentioning what He deems abominations, it's not difficult to understand that from ELOHIM's perspective there's not one single person who is good.

  • Romans 3:10-12 "As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one. There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”

  • Psalm 53:1 "For the choirmaster. According to Mahalath. A Maskil of David. The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt; their ways are vile. There is no one who does good."

  • Ecclesiastes 7:20 "Surely there is no righteous man on earth who does good and never sins."

If no one is good, then who will go to heaven?

Admission to New Jerusalem is not based on merit and our actions, we do not go to heaven because we are a "good" person but because we have been redeemed by the grace of God.

  • Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast."

The redeemed are those who have accepted Jesus into their lives, and repented of their sins. They will never become holy in the true sense of the word but they will strive for holiness by sinning less and constantly seeking to do what pleases God not because they fear Him, but because they love Him with all their heart.
